Co-operative living

Anyone living here is a member, not a tenant. That sounds like a small difference but it is a large one.

As a member of the co-operative you are a co-owner. You take part in decisions about the place you live.

How it works

When you move in you pay for co-operative shares. These are your contribution of equity. In return you receive a permanent right of use to your flat, with no time limit, no market rent and no arbitrary decisions by a landlord.

The monthly charge, comparable to rent, is calculated to cover costs. No profit is paid out; surpluses flow back into maintenance and new building.

Why this matters

In one of the most expensive housing markets in Germany the co-operative model offers real protection against displacement. Members who no longer wish to hold their shares have them repaid in full, without loss.
